Fishing Report

08/19/2026

Where has the summer gone?

We are cruising in to late August.  The crowds are starting to thin.  Kiddies are heading back to school.  We are losing three to college this week so we will be short staffed through Labor Day.

The best fishing of the year is coming soon.  Although it will be hard to beat the balck drum and striper run we had on the beach back in April.

The big news lately has been about 10 or so cobia caught on the surf in the last week.  Cobia are a true unicorn catch from the surf.  You can try to target them but the catches are really  random.  Aiden Gottshall landed a 46 inch cobia on the surf at 3R's last Wednesday.  He told us he was shark fishing using heavy wire leader and old squid.  Go figure!!!

Delaware regs for Cobia are a 43 inch mimimum length and a 2 fish a day limit.

Kingfish and spot are hitting on the surf as well with the occasional small bluefish.  We have live sand worms.

Tog, sheepshead and triggerfish are providing good action along the rocks.  We have live sand fleas most every day weather permitting.

Blues have been coming through on the daytime incoming tides.  The best striper fishing is at night on live eels.

We saw our first fresh mullet of the season yesterday.  Only a few dozen.  Our catcher is going to try every day.  Supply will be sporadic at first.

The next update of the fishing report will be on Friday August 28.  I'll be moving my youngest down to Flagler College in St Augustine Florida.  Empty nest!!!

Looks like we have good weekend weather in coming!!!
