Tournament Headquarters:
Old Inlet Bait & Tackle

Fishing Area: Designated surf fishing areas in the Delaware Seashore State Park from the 1000 foot marker on the north side of the Indian River Inlet up to Conquest Road.

Drive-on Locations: Conquest Road and the Faithful Steward Crossing (Savage's Ditch)

Walk-On: Conquest Road (Key Box Road is not in the tournament area) Specific information on the tournament boundaries will be supplied in tournament packet at the time of check-in.

Prizes:

  • Largest Shark of Tournament: $500.00
  • Most Points: $1,000.00 + Trophy
  • 2nd Most Points: $500.00 + Trophy
  • 3rd Most Points: $250.00 + Trophy
  • Calcutta: $10 Per Person: One Prize for the Biggest Striped Bass, Flounder, Bluefish OR Red Drum of the Tournament

Entry Fee:
Individuals ( Men or Women over 18 ) $40.00 ~ Individuals under the age of 18 are not permitted to participate in this tournament.

Fishing License Requirement: A fishing license is required for saltwater fishing in Delaware waters. This license covers saltwater, freshwater and crabbing and clamming. The annual license fee is $10 for Delaware residents and $21.50 for non-residents. Seven Day Tourist licenses are also available for $14. Licenses will be made available for purchase at check-in.

A current Delaware Fisheries Information Network Number (FIN) is required as well. The FIN can be obtained by calling 1-800-432-9228

Awards:
Prizes will be awarded at 4:30 P.M. Saturday, August 21 at Savages Ditch Pavillion.

Check in Time:
Anglers must check-in at Old Inlet Bait & Tackle to obtain tournament score sheet and packet. Check-in time is Friday, August 20 from 12pm until 9pm or Saturday, August 21 from 6am until 7am. Absolutely no check-in available after 7am on Saturday, August 21.

Fishing Time:
Saturday, August 21 - 7 A.M. - 3 P.M.

Qualifying Species: All sharks qualify in this tournament. Qualifying species for the Calcutta are bluefish, striped bass, flounder and red drum. The largest fish caught among these species will be awarded the Calcutta prize.

Beach Rules:

  • All 4WD vehicles must have a Delaware Surf Fishing Vehicle Permit. Three day special event vehicle permits will be available for purchase at Check-in.
  • No fishing other than in designated tournament areas.
  • Person baiting, casting the rod, hooking the fish must land the shark. You may be assisted in beaching shark when supervised by a Tournament Judge.
  • All sharks must be caught on hook and line and landed on beach.
  • If gaffing is required to beach fish, assistance may be used provided the fish is fully visible from the beach.
  • All sharks must be released.
  • Angler must allow shark tagging project personnel to examine shark and tag shark upon request.
  • Unsportsmanlike conduct will result in disqualifi cation. Final ruling will be made by tournament committee.
  • No lines in the water before 7am.
  • You must hook and fight the fish standing on the beach.
  • No electric reels.
  • No chumming.

Scoring:

  • Fish are scored to the individual who catches them.
  • Judges will be patrolling the beach during fishing hours to measure and record catches on tournament score sheets.
  • Any disputes will be resolved by the judges.
  • All fish will be scored by the length of the fi sh as measured from the tip of snout to the tip of the tail.
  • One point per inch. No partial points will be awarded.
  • Total points determine winner(s).
  • Ties on total points will be broken by most fish. If tie continues, points of the largest fish will be totaled. If tie remains unbroken, prize money will be divided.
  • Score Sheets must be turned in to judges or Old Inlet no later than 3:30pm. Score sheets must be signed or they will be disqualified.
  • No more than 2 rods per angler and no more than two hooks per line. There are no restrictions on bait, sinkers or line.
  • Baits may be paddled out in a kayak, canoe or on a surf board provided that the person is wearing a United States Coast Guard certified Personal Flotation Device. Failure to wear a PFD will result in immediate disqualification. You must paddle-out your own bait. Swimming baits-out is NOT permitted.

Inclement Weather:
In the event of State Beach closing due to heavy surf, prizes will be awarded by lottery on at the Awards Ceremony on Saturday, August 21 at 4:30pm.
